3M 2080 Matte Black and Psychedelic Flip Hockey Stripes on a 6th Gen Ford Bronco

Ford Bronco Hockey Stripes Knoxville – AZ Rag

Some builds are one decision. This one is the result of several. A returning client has been evolving her 6th gen Ford Bronco through multiple iterations at AZ Rag over the last few years, and this is the latest chapter: a full color change in 3M 2080 Matte Black with psychedelic flip hockey stripes running the full length of the truck.

The Build

The base is 3M 2080 Matte Black — a cast vinyl film applied across every painted panel of the Bronco. The matte finish is purposeful on this platform. The 6th gen Bronco has flat, angular body panels and a boxy silhouette that suits a non-reflective finish. Black disappears the details and puts the shape of the truck front and center.

The stripes are where this build gets interesting. Classic hockey stripe layout — a wide center band flanked by thin pinstripes — laid over the hood and carried the full length of the body. The film is 3M 2080 Psychedelic Flip, a color-shift vinyl that reads differently depending on the angle and the light. Straight on, it shows a deep blue. Roll the angle or change the light, and it shifts toward silver and grey. Against the matte black base, the contrast is clean without being loud.

Why Hockey Stripes Work on the Bronco

The hockey stripe is one of the oldest automotive graphics formats for a reason. It works with body lines rather than against them. On the Bronco, the stripe follows the natural break between the lower body cladding and the upper painted surface, which gives the design a grounded, intentional look. It does not fight the truck. It reinforces what is already there.

The psychedelic flip material adds a layer of visual interest without crossing into busy territory. At rest, the stripes read as subtle. In motion or in direct sunlight, they catch the eye. That tension is what makes the material a strong choice for this kind of accent work.

The Installation

Hockey stripes require precise placement. Any deviation from parallel — across a panel break, through a body line transition, or at the door seams — reads immediately. The stripe was run consistent across the full body length, with seams placed at natural transition points where the geometry of the truck allows the eye to move past them.

Matte black over the full vehicle also demands clean installation. The finish has no gloss to mask surface inconsistencies. Every panel was prepped thoroughly before the film went down, and the result is a finish that reads as factory from any distance.

As a 3M Preferred Installer through the United Application Standards Group (UASG), every installation at AZ Rag is held to 3M’s certified standards across both the color change film and the stripe work.

A Truck That Keeps Evolving

This client has been bringing this Bronco back to us through several different phases. Each version has been a different direction — different materials, different concepts, different goals. That kind of long-term relationship with a vehicle is something we see often with Bronco owners. The platform supports iteration in a way that most trucks do not. It is built to be customized, and it shows.

This is the most resolved version of the build yet. The matte black base gives the truck a presence that earlier iterations were working toward, and the psychedelic flip stripes add the right amount of character without overcomplicating it.
