Some clients want a wrap. This client wanted a brand. A local insurance agent came to us with a goal that went beyond the usual logo-and-phone-number treatment: a fully matched commercial wrap package across two vehicles, a new Dodge Ram and a Phoenix bass boat, tied together by a hand-drawn caricature illustration we created in-house. When that truck rolls through Knoxville towing that boat, it is one unified marketing statement from bumper to prop.
Two Surfaces, One Brand
An insurance agent who fishes is not a rare thing in East Tennessee. An insurance agent who wraps his bass boat to match his truck so the whole rig becomes a rolling advertisement — that takes a different kind of marketing commitment.
The client wanted bold, high-contrast commercial branding on both vehicles: a deep red and black design with white type, office contact information, service category callouts for life, home, and auto coverage, and a central character illustration that would make the whole setup immediately recognizable. We designed the caricature from scratch. Hand drawn, then digitized and scaled for both applications. The result is a mascot-style figure in a cowboy hat that anchors the design on both the truck door panel and the boat hull.
Designing the Caricature
A caricature is a specific discipline. It captures likeness through exaggeration — the features that make someone recognizable, pushed until they become a character. Getting it right for a commercial wrap means the illustration has to read at distance, hold detail at close range, and print cleanly at large format without losing definition in the lines.
We drew this one by hand, then refined it for production. At the scale involved, from a truck door panel to a full boat side, every line and shaded area has to be intentional. A muddy illustration at small scale becomes an unreadable smear at four feet tall. This one holds at every distance.

Wrapping a Truck and a Boat — Two Different Problems
The Dodge Ram is a large canvas with compound curves across the hood, fenders, cab pillars, and bed. A full commercial wrap on a truck this size requires careful paneling so seams land in recessed body lines and disappear. The red-to-black color transition on the lower body had to carry consistently across doors, bed sides, and tailgate without breaking or shifting at the panel edges.
The Phoenix bass boat is a different challenge. Fiberglass hull surfaces behave differently than automotive paint. The hull curves are tighter, the geometry runs low and horizontal, and the surface requires specific prep before any film goes down. Boat wraps also live in a harsher environment than truck wraps: UV exposure on open water, direct contact with moisture, and temperature swings that expand and contract the hull material throughout the season.
We ran both on 3M IJ175cv3 cast vinyl with 3M 8518 overlaminate. Cast vinyl conforms to compound curves without building tension, which matters on a boat hull just as much as it does on automotive body panels. The 8518 laminate adds gloss protection and UV resistance that extends the life of both wraps in outdoor environments — critical when one of them is spending weekends on the water.
Why a Matched Set Works
When the truck tows the boat, you have two coordinated billboard surfaces moving through traffic as one. The design reads as a single cohesive brand identity, not two separate wrap jobs that happen to share colors. For a service business built on recognition and trust, that consistency does real work.
An insurance agent builds a book of business on relationships and repeat encounters. Every time that rig is on the highway, at a boat ramp, or parked at a client’s neighborhood, it is making an impression. That is the point of a commercial vehicle wrap — passive marketing that runs while you are focused on the actual work. The caricature makes it personal. The matched set makes it impossible to miss.
