Factory Silver From Ruby Red: A Full Color Change Wrap on a Ford F-450 and McLaren Race Trailer

This one started with a problem most truck buyers would not expect to have. A brand new Ford F-450 rolled off the dealer lot in Ruby Red, and the owner hated the color. A factory repaint meant months of waiting and a voided warranty. A color change wrap meant the truck could look exactly the way he wanted it, without touching the paint underneath. We wrapped the entire truck in 3M 2080 Silver, including the door jambs, and then built out the full McLaren race team livery on the trailer to match. The result left the shop looking like it came from the factory that way.

The Problem With Waiting on the Factory

Special order paint through a dealer can take months, and on a work vehicle that needs to be operational, that timeline is not realistic. More importantly, factory repaints affect resale value and can raise questions at the dealership if anything goes wrong under warranty. A wrap solves both problems. The original Ruby Red paint is preserved underneath, fully protected. When the wrap comes off, the truck is back to factory condition. No paint was touched, no warranty was compromised, and the owner did not wait a single extra day to take delivery.

What a Proper Color Change Actually Involves

A color change wrap that looks factory is not just about applying film to the outside panels. The door jambs are what give it away. Most people can spot a wrap the moment a door opens. On this F-450, we wrapped the jambs throughout so the silver reads consistently whether the doors are open or closed. That is the detail that separates a real color change wrap from a surface-level job.

The truck also received McLaren race team accent graphics in papaya orange and blue, with “McLaren Hauler” lettering on the doors. The accents were designed to carry through to the trailer, so the two pieces read as a single coordinated build when hitched together.

The Trailer: A Full McLaren Race Livery

The enclosed race trailer got a full livery treatment in McLaren’s signature papaya orange with black and blue wave graphics, the McLaren wordmark, team logo, and AERO-B sponsor branding across the body. A trailer at a race event is a billboard. It sits in the paddock all weekend in front of competitors, sponsors, and spectators. The quality of the wrap reflects directly on the team inside it.

Trailer wraps present their own challenges. The surface area is large, the panels are flat and unforgiving, and any inconsistency in color or seam placement is immediately visible. The orange across this trailer is consistent panel to panel, the graphics are aligned, and the finished product is clean enough to represent a professional racing operation at events across the country.

The Kind of Work We Get Out of Bed For

We are car people. Every person at AZ Rag got into this trade because of a genuine interest in vehicles, motorsport, and the craft of making something look exactly right. A McLaren race team build is the kind of project that does not feel like work. It is an opportunity to put our best installation on equipment that will be seen at tracks all over the nation, representing a team that demands precision.

That enthusiasm is not separate from the quality of the work. It is the reason the door jambs get wrapped, the seams get placed correctly, and the livery graphics line up the way they are supposed to. If you are building something that matters to you, you want it done by people who understand why it matters.
