Tesla Cybertruck Wrap in Knoxville: 3M Satin Dark Grey With Satin Black Hood and PPF

The Cybertruck already looks like nothing else on the road. This one got a two-tone satin build that leans into that geometry and adds a layer of protection where the truck takes the most punishment. Full body in 3M 2080 Satin Dark Grey, satin black on the hood and front grille panel, and paint protection film over those front surfaces. Three materials, one coherent build. Here is how it came together.

The Color Story: Satin Dark Grey and Satin Black

3M 2080 Satin Dark Grey sits between a matte and a gloss. It has enough sheen to show depth on a flat surface without going reflective, which makes it read well on the Cybertruck’s large geometric planes. The entire body gets this treatment: cab, bed, vault lid, sail panels, and quarter sections. Everything that was stainless steel is now a single consistent dark grey.

The hood and front grille panel are wrapped in 3M 2080 Satin Black. Darker than the body, lower sheen. The contrast between the two satin tones is subtle from a distance and sharp up close, which is the right call for a truck with this much visual weight already. The black front face makes the Cybertruck look aggressive head-on while the grey reads as a more measured, stealth tone from the side and rear.

PPF on the High-Impact Surfaces

The hood and grille are the first surfaces to catch road debris at highway speed. On a truck that gets driven hard, those areas are going to take rock chips and abrasion before anything else. The satin black wrap on those surfaces gets a layer of paint protection film applied over it. The PPF is clear, so the satin black shows through. What changes is that the film absorbs the impact instead of the wrap.

The practical result: the wrap on those surfaces stays intact longer, and minor road damage self-heals in heat rather than leaving a permanent mark. For a Cybertruck that is going to be driven daily and parked in a lot, that protection on the leading edge is worth the additional investment.

Wrapping Stainless Steel

The Cybertruck does not have painted body panels. It has brushed stainless steel, which is a fundamentally different substrate than what wrap installers work with on every other vehicle. Stainless expands and contracts at a different rate than painted steel, it is non-porous, and the surface prep approach has to account for the fact that adhesion works differently on metal than on automotive paint.

The angular geometry adds its own considerations. The Cybertruck’s body is made up of flat planes that meet at sharp edges rather than compound curves that flow into each other. That means seam placement has to be deliberate — every edge is visible and exact, so any misalignment in the film shows immediately. On a conventional car, body curves can hide a seam. On the Cybertruck, there is nowhere to hide.

We have worked the Cybertruck platform before. The AMS Construction Cybertruck fade wrap gave us the first read on how the stainless takes film and where the edge work requires the most attention. This satin grey build applied that experience to a full color change with a two-tone front treatment, which added the complexity of a clean material transition at the hood line.

What to Know If You Are Wrapping a Cybertruck

The full picture on cost, material options, and what to expect from a Cybertruck wrap is covered in our Tesla Cybertruck wrap guide. The short version: the stainless substrate and the geometric body mean this is not the same job as wrapping a conventional truck, and the shop you choose should have hands-on experience with the platform before touching yours.
