There are color change wraps, and then there are builds where every detail is considered. This Tesla Model S came to AZ Rag for a full color change wrap in 3M 2080 Dead Matte Black paired with a full chrome delete in 3M gloss black. The result is a blacked-out sedan that looks factory but hits different. Here is how we built it.
The Goal: A Cohesive All-Black Build
The owner wanted more than a color change. The vision was a fully unified look — dead matte black across every painted surface, with the chrome trim eliminated to match. Half measures were not part of the plan. A chrome delete done right means every reflective trim piece, window surround, and accent is wrapped in coordinating film so nothing breaks the visual.
That kind of build requires a shop that can handle both the full wrap and the chrome work with the same level of precision. One seam out of place or a mismatched finish between the body wrap and the trim delete breaks the whole look.
The Materials: 3M 2080 Dead Matte Black
For the full color change, we used 3M 2080 Dead Matte Black. This is not your standard flat black. The Dead Matte finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, giving the car a depth and texture that flat paint cannot replicate. It is a finish that reads differently in sunlight than in shade, and it holds up. As a 3M Preferred Installer, AZ Rag backs every 3M 2080 color change with the manufacturer’s warranty on vertical surfaces.
For the chrome delete, we used 3M gloss black film on all exterior chrome trim. The contrast between the dead matte body and the gloss black trim creates a subtle, intentional texture difference that makes the build feel considered rather than flat.
What the Installation Involves
Wrapping a Tesla Model S is not a straightforward job. The panel lines are tight, the body curves are aggressive, and the door handles on the Model S are retractable — which means the wrap has to account for movement. Every panel was prepped, cleaned, and wrapped individually. The chrome delete required careful removal of trim pieces and precise cuts around window surrounds to keep edges clean and tight.
The full car shots tell the story. Zero lifting edges, no visible seams, consistent finish across every panel.
If you are comparing Tesla wraps across the lineup, we have wrap guides for the Model X and the Model Y as well.
