One in ten. That is how many 2018 McLaren 570S MSO X cars exist in the world. When the owner of this one wanted the livery stripes refreshed, they brought it to AZ Rag. The job: replace the original stripe accents with 3M 2080 Series orange, coordinate a matching powder coat on the wheels, and restore the full GT4-inspired look the car was built around.
What the MSO X Is
The 570S MSO X is not a standard McLaren. It was a bespoke commission from McLaren Special Operations (MSO), built to mirror the external appearance of the 570S GT4 race car as closely as possible for the road. Only 10 were made, all for the US market, all with liveries inspired by McLaren F1 GTR endurance race cars from the mid-1990s.
This car carries the full MSO X specification: a GT4-inspired pylon-mounted rear wing producing close to 100kg of extra downforce, front dive planes, a carbon fiber roof snorkel modeled on the 1997 F1 GTR Longtail, carbon fiber hood with functional air intakes, satin carbon fiber across the roof, bonnet, side skirts, and engine cover. The interior strips out everything non-essential. The MSO Titanium Super Sports Exhaust and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires round out what is, in every meaningful way, a race car that happens to have a license plate.
This example adds a full PPF film over the white paint for protection.

The Work: Stripes, Wheels, One Cohesive Result
The original MSO X livery runs orange accent stripes along the hood edge, door sills, rear quarter panels, and around the pylon wing mount. The owner wanted those refreshed and the wheels brought into the same color story.
For the stripes, we used 3M 2080 Series film. It delivers a clean, consistent gloss orange that holds up to outdoor exposure without fading or lifting at the edges. On a car with this much exposed satin carbon fiber, every termination point and edge transition had to be cut and finished precisely. The stripes need to look like they belong to the car, not applied to it.
For the wheels, we coordinated the powder coat to match the orange exactly. The owner did not have to source a separate shop or manage two jobs. We handled the full scope and returned the car with stripes and wheels dialed in together.
The result is exactly what the MSO X was designed to look like: the carbon bodywork, the orange accents, and the race-inspired silhouette all reading as one complete package.
Working on Exotic and Competition Vehicles
This is the kind of job that requires experience with high-end paint, PPF, and complex bodywork. Satin carbon fiber does not forgive errors. Pressure, heat, and blade work all have to be dialed in correctly to avoid marking surfaces that cannot be buffed out.
AZ Rag handles exotic car wraps and stripe work with the same process discipline we apply to competition vehicles. If you want to see a similar level of detail on a competition car, take a look at the race livery we designed for the Phillips Porsche GT4 RS Clubsport. We’re no stranger to McLarens as you can see with this tow rig that got a full color change.
Why AZRagIPS
Owners of rare and high-value vehicles need a shop that understands what is at stake. One bad cut on a carbon panel is not a recoverable situation. AZ Rag is a 3M Preferred Installer with hands-on experience across exotics, race cars, and vehicles where the standard of work has to be right the first time.
